DUN FACTOR CHARACTERISTICS

DUN FACTOR CHARACTERISTICS of the Spanish Dun Mustangs, are shades of beige to a gray-blue known as grullo or grulla, dark bars or striping on their legs, a dark dorsal stripe. Bi-colored manes/tails, often tri-colored, a lean body, narrow chest, sloping croup and low-set tail. The "wild type Dun", are the ones with the most Spanish markers in them and those happen to have the Dun gene. Great Basin Duns says: This ancient horse is preserved from man’s past.

We searched for a horse that had qualities like those listed below. We found the Sulphur Springs Horses.  Nature did selective breeding for hundreds of years. Horses that have been living for generations in high mountains, producing a horse with exact qualities that interested us. We have found other Dun Factor horses in the Western HMAs.
