| The Confusion HMA is
located 90 miles northwest of Delta in the Confusion Mountains. The
HMA contains 235,000 acres of federal and state land. The
vegetation on this HMA is dominated by sagebrush, shadscale, bunchgrass. The horses have an average weight of
700-1000 pounds and vary in color, ranging from grays, roans and pintos to
bays and sorrels. |

The Conger Mountains
Herd Management Area (HMA) is located 75 miles west of Delta. The HMA contains 147,000 acres of federal and state lands. The
vegetation on the upper slopes of the Conger Mountains is comprised of
mountain brush and junipers. Lower slopes are dominated by
shadscale, rice grass and low sagebrush types. The original source of this
herd is unknown.
This herd is being managed to maintain the black, roan, palomino, and dun
colors and average 13 to 14 hands tall and 700 to 1000 pounds.
The BLM management goal for this herd is only 60
and 100 mustangs. |

King Top Mountains HMA
contains 149,567 acres of federal and state lands.
The
HMA is located 70 miles west of Delta. King Top Mountain, with an elevation
between 5,000 and 8,000 feet, supports wild horses and wildlife. Much of the
area is a high plateau, rugged and remote. The vegetation on the upper
slopes of the HMA is by pinyon and juniper. The lower
slopes are covered by sagebrush, shadscale, and rice grass. The herd is
mostly by black, bay, and brown colors. Light colors are uncommon and average 13 to 14 hands tall and weigh 700 to 900
pounds. The BLM management goal for this herd is to maintain a herd size of
only 40 and 60 mustangs. |

Swasey Mountains HMA
contains 120,113 acres of federal, state, and
privately-owned lands. The vegetation on the upper elevation of the
Swasey Mountains is comprised of mountain brush and aspen groves. The
foothill region mostly grows shadscale and rice grass. Many of the
horses are descendents of horses that were from local ranches. The Swasey Herd is dominated by gray and light
colored horses. Other colors include black, brown, bays, buckskins, and
pintos. The average size of herd adults is 14 to 14 1/2 hands. The BLM's goal for this herd is to maintain a herd size
is only 60 and 100
horses. The Swasey HMA
is located in north-central Millard County, apprx. 30
miles west of Delta. |
